“Descendants of the Sun’s” production company, NEW, will apparently develop the Korean remake of “Criminal Minds.”
On Wednesday, the company behind the smash hit drama “DoTS” announced via a statement that they will be collaborating with Taewon Entertainment to produce a Korean version of the crime drama, Soompi reported.
According to the statement, the company has not yet chosen a network for the series, but they are targeting a 2017 release.
“The remake of CBS’s ‘Criminal Minds’ will be a collaboration between NEW and Taewon Entertainment. We are targeting an early 2017 premiere, and are discussing the selection of a broadcast station,” said a NEW representative, via Soompi.
“Criminal Minds,” which premiered in the United States in Sept. 2005 and is now on its 12th season, follows the story of criminal profilers from the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of the FBI.
There’s a lot of anticipation and hype over NEW’s possible next drama following the overwhelming success of “Descendants of the Sun.” Prior to the Song Joongi Ki-starrer, the production company put more focus on films.
There’s no word yet on the actors they are considering for the “Criminal Minds” remake, but it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Song Joong Ki were offered a role after proving himself as a bankable leading man in “DoTS.
Meanwhile, there’s also a lot of hype over two upcoming remakes of U.S. series “The Good Wife” and “Entourage.”
The Korean remake of “The Good Wife,” which stars Jeon Do Yeon and Yoo Ji Tae, is set to air this July on tvN.
On the same network, the “Entourage” remake starring Seo Kang Joon, Lee Dong Hwi and Lee Kwang Soo will premiere in November.
