Many fans of “Criminal Minds” still cannot believe that actor Shemar Moore will no longer be part of the upcoming season, season 12. Moore said he is willing to go back to reprise his role, but not soon.
Filming for “Criminal Minds” season 12 is already underway and some returning cast have been announced. This has led fans to hope that maybe Moore could change his mind. In an interview with TV Guide the actor shared, “Erica Messer refused to kill Derek Morgan. Those elevated doors closed. Am I going to sign a long-term contract? Probably not. But if they ask me to come back and dance, yes, I would be willing to do that. But not right away.”
Rumors about his departure from the show include being at odds with the show’s producer and writer, Erica Messer. However, the actor had been saying the decision to leave was his as he wanted to grow outside of the series. He said, “I wanted to see what the next chapter of my acting career is and also have a little balance so I could pursue other avenues in my life. I want to get married, I want to have kids, I want to travel.”
In related news, actress Kirsten Vangsness who plays Penelope Garcia on the show was present at the San Diego Comic-Con. During the round-table interview, she was asked if newest cast member Adam Rodriguez’s character will replace Derek Morgan, which Moore portrayed. Vangsness said Moore is irreplaceable so Rodriguez’s character will be totally different.
When asked to compare the two actors, the actress joked, “I haven’t fully tasted it yet, but I’m really looking forward to making a sundae out of it.”
“Criminal Minds” season 12 premieres on Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
