Erica Messer is expanding her relationship with Criminal Minds producers ABC Studios.
The showrunner behind the long-running CBS procedural has inked a new two-year pod deal with ABC Studios and launched Erica Messer Productions.
Messer will create original dramas for ABC Studios and continue to serve as showrunner for Criminal Minds, which returns for its 13th season on Sept. 27.
“Erica has been an extraordinary showrunner for us and we’re very excited to see what’s in store with her new production company housed at ABC Studios,” ABC Studios president Patrick Moran said Monday in a statement.
Messer has brought in longtime friend and TV and film development executive Deborah Cincotta to serve as president of development at Erica Messer Productions. The duo worked together 20 years ago at Keyser-Lippman Productions. Together, their goal is to build a TV company known for its collaborative and empowering relationship with artists. The production company is currently focused on spearheading network projects with both new and veteran writers for the 2018-19 development season.
Messer’s credits include Party of Five, Alias, The O.C. and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. She is repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson.
Criminal Minds has stood the test of time for CBS. The series continues to pull in solid numbers for the network despite a string of cast departures, including the headline-making firing of original castmember Thomas Gibson last season.
