Criminal defense lawyer charged with DWI – Jacksonville Daily News

A criminal and civil defense attorney has been accused of impaired and reckless driving.

Joseph Francis Peterson, 25, of Sandpiper Drive in N. Topsail Beach, was charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving to endanger by North Carolina Highway Patrol, according to court documents.

Few details were available from court documents except hand-written notes stating Peterson was allegedly driving carelessly and recklessly near Pirate Cove in Sneads Ferry, which branches off from N.C. 210.

Peterson was allegedly driving while impaired around 4 a.m., according to court documents.

Peterson did not return a call for comment by deadline.

He was set with a $1,000 bond, according to court documents.

The trooper who issued the citations was off for the Christmas holiday Thursday afternoon and the report was unavailable for more information at the office, according to a spokeswoman for Highway Patrol.

Peterson’s areas of practice in criminal law included DWIs, traffic, misdemeanors, and felonies, as well as family law, general civil litigation, and appeals, according to The Castle Law Firm’s website where he is employed.

The website also states Peterson attended Campbell University School of Law graduating this year in the top 25 percent of his class.

Under the DWI/DUI tab, The Castle Law Firm states that being convicted for the offense can have serious consequences and at the most lenient, a level five punishment, the convicted would lose their license for at least one year.
